Chef Charlotte Langley is the Chief Culinary Officer and Co-founder of Scout Canning, a sustainable seafood canning company that aims to bring fresh Maritime catches to home chefs all over Canada. With over 15 years of experience in the industry, Charlotte Langley is not shy when it comes to experimenting with cannabis as well. We chatted with her to learn more about her relationship with weed and how her and her partner share the plant together.

What is your connection with cannabis, and how do you use it outside of your relationship with your partner?

I started using cannabis socially around the age of 14. I smoked a joint the first time and was not exactly sure if I was high, but I loved it so I started scoring my own vs getting it from my buddy. I was curious, as most people are, and thought that it could potentially elevate my creative side. I currently enjoy some of the medical benefits such as sleep aid, stress relief, and pain management. I am very excited about the craft of cannabis and where it is going to go. The smell, taste and touch of the cannabis plant are the reasons I continue to enjoy it and practice with it.

How do you use cannabis within your relationship?

My partner and I have created and played with many different types of cannabis formats. Together it's an amazing learning experience, but sometimes it doesn't always work out. For example, we had some access to pure THC distillate and attempted to make some infused honey as a gift to share with our fellow cannabis enthusiastic friends. Well... one of our friends lost 24 hours of their time and we all learned a lot about sourcing as well as knowing what the heck you’re doing. One of us has a green thumb and has been experimenting with a pheno hunt. This may sound a little weird but the specific medical benefits that we both enjoy come from specific strains, and who doesn't love uncovering a heritage strain. The chef in me says oui!

How does cannabis enhance these aspects of your relationship?

More playtime! As a fun example we left a "geocache" of some of our home grown bits in the woods. We shared the following location (44°53'56.7"N 77°12'24.9"W) with some of our friends, so if you ever discover it, take a little, leave a little.

Are there any cannabis rituals that you like to practice for better intimacy between you and your partner?

I am a huge fan of tub time to relax, slow down and just stop my mind. I will get in the tub and oftentimes with a little cannabis tincture here, and little bath salt there I am ready... if you know what I mean...

How has your cannabis consumption changed since COVID?

We’re definitely trying different formats, growing more, tasting more and experimenting more. I am working on a line for the hospitality industry that is edible, moisturizing and can translate from bath to plate. Similar to wine, we’re further developing our understanding and appreciation of this magical plant.
