Microdosing Edibles

There has been a shift in the way cannabis is being consumed and an increasing amount of people are becoming experimental with dosing edibles more than ever. Microdosing has been making waves in the industry - some people swear by it.

Eating cannabis has always been a joy but by adding the aspect of mindful consumption during the day, we are able to utilize cannabis through a new intentional lens. As this form of consumption becomes more and more mainstream, there’s got to be a reason why “microdosing” is on everyone’s lips, right? In this blog, we will get into the thick of how and why an amendment in dosing can be a real game-changer with edibles.

What is actually considered a microdose?

Right off the bat, let’s set these guidelines straight. Anything under 10mg of THC is considered a low dose of cannabis but ~2.5-3 mg is generally a microdose. Most people suggest starting at 2.5 mg of THC per day for three days. During this 3-day period, it’s imperative to be extra mindful of how you feel with this dose. Keeping a journal to record your findings is always recommended. You can adjust this dose sparingly to find what works for you.

Why edibles?

Having a precise dose is a major prerequisite to microdosing cannabis and thankfully, edibles serve this purpose quite effectively. By knowing exactly how much THC and CBD you consume every time, you’ll be better equipped with a precise method of finding your cannabis sweet spot (or your, err, c-spot?).

Some of the upsides to consuming a lower dose

1. Keep tabs on paranoia

It happens to the best of us and is hardly ever a good experience. With microdosing, the likelihood of paranoia is significantly reduced (by the way, check out our blog on 4 Ways to Counteract a High if you haven’t already)

2. Break free from getting “too stoned”

Microdosing allows you to ditch the commonly felt lethargy that sometimes occurs at consuming too much pot. If you’re ever concerned about your productivity, this is for you!

3. Resetting tolerance

If you’re a frequent consumer, you know how easy it is to let your tolerance level stack as the days go by. Microdosing offers you the opportunity to dial it back and give your body a break.

4. Perfect midday pick-me-up

No one ever argues with a midday buzz (i.e. I’m looking at you, day drinking). Having a low cannabis dose is no different except for the fact that it's very manageable (or perhaps not even very perceptual at all) - you do still feel like you can let loose a bit more. With a slight elevation throughout the day, we can make a comparison akin to the way people enjoy drinking coffee.

5. It can melt away your stress and tension build-up

Cannabis has a beautiful way with letting all of our day-to-day stressors shift aside from our focus. It really helps put things into perspective and microdoses function in a similar manner. While you shouldn’t expect to get very high, you can soak right into the stress relieving benefits that THC and CBD have to offer with a microdose. A light cannabis dose has the potential to render you a more patient, calm and even-tempered person.

The Key: Finding the right dose

So, what’s the biggest takeaway here? Finding the right minimum dose for you is so clutch in incorporating microdosing into your routine. Everyone has a threshold with cannabis as we are each equipped with a naturally functioning endocannabinoid system. As this is genetically embedded within us, we each process cannabis uniquely and this is why it’s so important for you to do your own due diligence with dosing yourself. As cliché as it sounds, with microdosing edibles, it’s highly recommended that you start low and go slow. When arriving at the perfect cannabis sweet spot, you are in control and ever so slightly lifted. When below it, see it as an opportunity to mindfully increase your dose and incorporate cannabis with intent. If you go above this threshold, you may build a tolerance requiring more cannabis and the benefits may diminish (depending on the effects you strive for). It really all comes down to what resonates best with you and for what occasion. Please consume responsibly!
